North Bend Boardwalk

North Bend
, Oregon

The North Bend Boardwalk is a new waterfront walkway that connects Virginia Avenue and California Avenue in historic downtown North Bend, Oregon. This urban waterfront walkway provides pedestrians the unique ability to view Coos Bay and the adjacent hills and natural areas from a raised linear platform over the water. The walkway has three pedestrian viewing areas that include benches and raised planters. Pole mounted lights and inset LED lighting allow use of the walk in the evening. Signage, stamped concrete, special concrete scoring, concrete columns, and a metal railing system are also included. The concrete columns that line the edge of the walkway were designed with inspiration from the historic bridge rails of the Conde McCullough Memorial Bridge (formerly the Coos Bay Bridge). The crowning touch to the Boardwalk is an iconic copper and steel entry sign that welcomes visitors to the bay.

Cameron McCarthy provided site planning and aesthetics consultation for the prominent features of the Boardwalk. Our services included all site elements, design of the columns, entry sign, pedestrian viewing areas, planters, benches, railings, lighting, and all color and texture choices of surface materials. The project was completed the summer of 2010 with the grand opening coinciding with North Bend's 107th birthday.
